What will you do as an Assistant Accountant?
You will be integral to the smooth running of the finance department, covering a breadth of responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day operations including invoicing, supplier payments, credit control & financial reporting.
- Ensure accurate bookkeeping across purchase, sales, and nominal ledgers, including bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with payroll processing—monthly payroll preparation, pension submissions & deduction management.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns and quarterly submissions, ensuring full HMRC compliance.
- Produce trial balances, assist with journal entries, and actively support the month-end close procedures.
- Manage accounts administration, ensuring accurate records and efficient finance operations.
What do you need as an Assistant Accountant?
- AAT-qualified (or actively studying towards AAT, ACCA, or CIMA).
- In-depth knowledge of financial reporting and compliance standards.
- Proficient in accounting software such as Xero, Sage, or QuickBooks & Microsoft Excel.
- Solid understanding of bookkeeping, payroll & general accounting principles.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills & proven ability to manage multiple deadlines.
