Client/account/customer centric approach

Market knowledge

Understanding the market and sector in which you, and more importantly, your clients, operate. Sales is built on trust, and you will always yield the best results by offering a broad appreciation of your prospects/clients industry, as well as competitor information. 

Communication and relationship building skills

Whilst communication and relationship building may seem obvious, this is vital to making your life in sales easier. Retained and existing business is cemented through open lines of communication and further cement your value within that industry.

TCP – tenacity, consistency, persistence

Future employers will need to see your demonstrable achievements and successes, many of which surely will not have come without their challenges. You will have worked diligently to bounce back from certain rejections and the personal determination and want to overcome obstacles.

From an education perspective, a degree can sometimes be preferable for a technical sales role, for example life sciences within a similar field, they are seldom required.
